Category: book Nook
I love listening to books on audio formats, but sometimes like to read them as e-texts or in large print. All 3 seem few and far between. I'm one of these people that likes to read a book once, but doesn't tend to again, or not much or for a long time anyway, so a lending service would be better, or some kind of exchange system. I'm already with NLB, RNIB and calibre cassette library, all of which are great services.
does anybody know any large print, audio and e-book libraries or exchanges (or suppliers in general of course)? Also (and this might be more suited to the cram sessions messageboards) sources of textbooks in such formats?
Look forward to your ideas!
Have you tried bookshare.org?
No, I haven't heard of that one, thanks. I'll pay them a visit now.
What is caliber and can any one get cassetes from them? and also rnib and nlb
Thanks
what kind of reading material are you seeking?
For e-books:
Bookshare
Classic Reader
Books to rent in audio but require membership:
RFB&D
RFB&D does audio in cd and cassette
Library of Congress
Library of Congress has books on cassete or in large print.
If you want a larger list of places that do audio and large print. Go to my website's books section. I've linked the two for you. Both sections list book providers by alphabetical order.
Large Print Books
Audio Books
NOTE: I apologize for the pop up ads. I'm in the process of working out a possible block on my card for that site. So just skp over the pop up ads and scroll down to what you need. These were linked outside
Thanks for all these, i'll make a note of them to investigate later when I have more time. The sort of books I enjoy reading are anything to do with crime, science fiction and some more general fiction depending on what the summary says! Of course, any that provide academic material would also be greatly sought after!
NLB is a UK-based charitable organisation providing Braille books mainly, but an increasing amount of large print (mainly children's at the moment) and they are teaming up with others for audio cassette stuff. I believe they can deliver overseas but not sure what their policy is on that. You could try calling them on 0161 3000.
Calibre cassette library is also a UK based charitable organisation offering audio cassettes for loan. Again I'm not sure what the situation is if you're not from the UK, but their number (UK style of course!) is 01296 432 339.
Hope that helps and thanks again for all the replies.
